Dendrites are feather- or leaf-like deposites of
a mineral,
typically manganese or iron oxides, on a flat surface.
They have been
wrongly identified as fossils.
When you compare the specimen above
to the pattern of edge of a baculite
septa, you can see how one might make
a mistake.
