Oligocene Fossils

Fossil

Growing up in Colorado gave me an opportunity to collect in two well known formations containing Oligocene fossils, Florissant Lake Beds and the White River Formation. Both formations date from very late in the Eocene into the Oligocene so from about 40 million years ago.

The Florissant Lake Beds are known for insects, leaves, fish, and birds.

The White River Formation is known for horses, oreodonts, rhinoceras, camels and other mammals.
